Join Hayley Scanlan for an 8-week sewing course designed to give you the skills, confidence and creative freedom to get behind a sewing machine and start making.

Whether you’re completely new to sewing, have tried it before or simply want to make more time to be creative, the H.S Sewing School is a relaxed, hands-on space to learn directly from Hayley.

LEARN FROM HAYLEY

The H.S Sewing Studio gives you the opportunity to learn directly from award-winning Scottish fashion designer Dr Hayley Scanlan.

Hayley learned to sew at the age of five, taught by her grandmother, and has been sewing ever since.

 

With more than 20 years of professional sewing experience within the fashion and textile industry, alongside building her own global fashion brand over the past 14 years, Hayley’s passion for sharing her skills and giving back to the community was the driving force behind launching her own sewing studio in 2026.

Having taught hundreds of children from across Scotland through her Kids’ Fashion Camps over the years, Hayley realised that her skills and knowledge could be shared with adults too. With more than 50 adult students signing up for her eight-week Sewing Block this year alone, Hayley is now expanding the studio, introducing a range of classes and workshops designed to suit different skill levels, interests and needs.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You don’t need to arrive knowing how to sew.

​

The H.S Sewing School is designed for different levels of experience, from complete beginners who have never used a sewing machine to those who already know the basics and want to build their confidence and develop their skills further.

Across the 8 weeks, you’ll learn in a relaxed, hands-on environment with guidance from Hayley, exploring areas including:

  • Getting confident with a sewing machine

  • Understanding fabrics and how to work with them

  • Pattern cutting and construction

  • Essential sewing techniques

  • Developing and creating your own pieces

  • Finishing techniques that make your work feel polished

  • Building the skills to continue sewing beyond the course

Classes are kept small so there’s plenty of opportunity for individual advice, questions and support as you progress.
