what's involved?

  • Research and learn the design process

  • Learn about design trends

  • Create mood boards for design 

  • Learn about and create fashion illustrations

  • Pattern cutting

  • Learn about construction of a garment

  • Create toiles (mock up of final product)

  • Get to know the sewing machine

  • Explore fabric

  • Cut and sew final garments & accessories

  • Showcase work in a small fashion show/presentation

  • Make friends, be creative & Have FUN!

All material and equipment will be provided by H.S.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The boot camp is for anyone in school who is showing a creative flare and has an interest in making things. Ideally they would be interested in fashion and sewing but absolutely no sewing experience is necessary. All attendees must be willing to learn as we will be covering a lot over the two day camp.

 

This course is perfect for beginners as it will be held in an intimate group meaning all kids will get the benefit of one on one attention and support from Hayley herself, however more advanced designers/makers will be encouraged to develop their skills and expertise with Hayley's advice and guidance. This camp is for everyone!

HOW TO BOOK?

H.S FASHION CAMP

H.S 2 DAY fashion camp is £150 per person, this includes all materials and machines. Your child will get to keep all their work and garment made throughout the sewing classes. Lunch is NOT provided so please bring a packed lunch, water and snacks for throughout the day.

A £50 non refundable deposit is collected on booking, with the remaining £100 to be paid 3 weeks prior to the camp dates. Failure to pay final balance on time will result in the camp place being resold.

Dr. Hayley Scanlan has over 20 years of sewing experience, if your little one is going to learn from anyone then it should be her! 

​

 Hayley first learned the art of dressmaking from Supergran Ella Bonar. This early experience inspired Hayley to study Textiles at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) where she emerged as an individual talent in the spectacular style which would quickly become her trademark. She has been sewing at fashion industry level ever since.

​

Since the start of her career, Hayley has some amazing achievements under her belt including:

  • Her graduation collection featuring in VOGUE.

  • Being awarded Scottish Young Designer of the Year in 2012 and 2014.

  • Dressing celebrities including Jessie J, Pixie Lott and Little Mix.

  • The V&A Dundee named her their 'Design Champion' for the Scottish museum.

  • She featured in Netflix hit series 'Next in Fashion'

  •  The  University of Dundee awarded her an honorary doctorate for her outstanding contribution to being a creative ambassador for Dundee.

Hayley fully believes the creativity, inspiration and drive behind her successful career has come from the time her Supergran gave her to teach her how to sew as a little girl. Hayley loves giving back to the city of Dundee and she is passionate about passing on her knowledge and inspiring the next generation of creatives.
